About

TikTok Trend Decoder is an editorial desk in Portland, Oregon, founded in 2021. We cover the products that circulate on TikTok and the claims that travel with them: that a pan is ceramic-coated, that a bag is full-grain leather, that a sheet set is 1,000 thread count, that a phone mount holds at highway speed.

Our team orders featured products at retail and tests them at our bench. We keep the order confirmations, the packaging and the test cards, and we publish what we find whether it flatters the product or not. The site is supported by affiliate commissions, which never decide a score.

We are three editors. Mara Ellison runs the desk and writes the claim breakdowns. Devin Okonkwo handles reviews and the test bench schedule. Priya Ramanathan handles material research and sourcing documents. The site began as a shared spreadsheet of viral products and the claims we wanted to check, which is where the name comes from.

We publish in English, keep a public corrections log, and answer reader questions at [email protected].

Mara Ellison Mara Ellison
Expertise

Claim verification for viral consumer products, textile and coating basics, editorial standards

Editor in Chief

Mara founded TikTok Trend Decoder in 2021 after years of covering consumer products and watching the same unverified claims circulate with each new wave of videos. She runs the desk from Portland, Oregon, writes most of the claim breakdowns, and keeps the master spreadsheet of checked claims. She has spent nine years covering consumer products and materials, with a focus on how marketing language drifts away from what a label actually says.

Devin Okonkwo Devin Okonkwo
Expertise

Hands-on product testing, load and durability checks, unboxing documentation

Reviews Editor

Devin schedules the test bench and runs most of the hands-on work at our Portland desk. He has seven years of product testing experience, from kitchen tools to bags and phone mounts, and he keeps the order log that proves when each item arrived and what condition it was in. He writes the reviews and builds the comparison tables.

Priya Ramanathan Priya Ramanathan
Expertise

Material research, supplier documentation, fiber and coating analysis, sourcing records

Research Editor

Priya handles material research: she reads the labels, the supplier documents and the safety sheets, and translates them into plain English for the review. She has six years of research experience across textiles and consumer goods, and she maintains the source lists behind each material claim. She also manages the translation notes for any non-English material we quote.
